biography

madison ray first hit the stage in the tokyo festival and nightclub scene in 2007 and was trained by johnny contardo of shanana. in 2012, madison won the title of raw des moines musician of the year and is currently signed to station 1 records.

he has performed with the likes of:

aaron carter, mya, belinda carlisle, latin grammy winner nestor torres, planet booty, dominique morgan, ellis hall of tower of power,

martha wash, thelma houston, thea austin, american idol's david hernandez, debbie gibson, jose felciano, and victor wooten.

he has performed with des moines metro opera, starred in rent as tom collins as well as the rocky horror show as the iconic eddie. in 2017, madison was nominated for a cloris award for his portrayal of michael in tick, tick, boom! he also had the honor of portraying united states senator cory booker in the world premiere of adore us! line by robert john ford.

as a producer, madison has created a trio of live music fashion shows at the former des moines social club, the garden nightclub, and the stoner theater. this work led to co-writing and directing the reynolds pamphlet and the sound of progress for progress iowa with the founder of girls rock! dsm, rae fehring.

in 2018, madison went on to produce a concert experience called gods & monsters with pat williams (miley cyrus, ke$ha, slipknot) at the temple theater in des moines, iowa.

since 2020, madison ray shifted to broadcast productions, writing the holiday special for iowa public radio and producing the juneteenth: the movement teleision special along with iowa pBS, iowa public radio, and xbk live.

seeing an opportunity to uplift young artists in his community, madison has served residencies as a teaching artist trained under christina farrell (the kennedy center, opera ignite), spoken at career and college days, raised money for the after school arts program in des moines, and emceed the international peace gala at his alma mater, soka university of america, raising nearly one million dollars for scholarships.

in 2021, he also wrote an original musical for the des moines public schools and turnaround arts called power up!: a virtual slice of life performance that gives a voice to the students' lifestyles, perspectives, and values.

madison ray works diligently for creativity, education, and community.
